In this third book of the Sundering series kicked off by R.A. Salvatore and the dark elf Drizzt, SCRIBE award-winning author Erin M. Evans thrusts her signature character Farideh into a maelstrom of devilish politics and magical intrigue that will have far-reaching implications for the future of the Forgotten Realms.
As the chaos of the Sundering rages around her, young warlock Farideh faces a more personal turmoil wrought by a deal she made with a devil years ago. Hoping to protect her twin sister, she leaves everything she holds dear to assist a wizard in a scheme that pits the devils of the Nine Hells against the gods above.
But when Farideh casts the spell to enter the wizard’s remote mountaintop fortress, she picks up a stowaway—a Harper agent named Dahl who isn’t so inclined to follow devilish demands. Dahl attempts to escape only to run into a village of odd people, lurking behind an impenetrable wall.
Forced to gaze into the villagers’ souls, Farideh points out the ones who seem different, only to watch as the wizard’s guard carts them off to fates unknown. Are these villagers or prisoners? Are they blessed or doomed by the gods? As the wizard’s guessing game proves more and more diabolical, Farideh resolves to unravel his secrets—even if it means she’ll lose her own soul to the Nine Hells.

Congratulations Erin Evans, the rest of the Sundering Series can't be any worse
By JK
This was a major departure from the level of storytelling I would have expected from the authors involved in the Sundering Series, and I can't understand why Wizards went in this direction, with this author, when many more talented writers have successfully contributed to the Forgotten Realms in the past. Perhaps it was an effort to draw an entirely absent demographic into their fold just to alienate (or exploit the loyalty of) their more ardent customers. It seems like instead of challenging or fighting stereotypes of young female protagonists, Erin Evans fully embraces the near debilitating weaknesses and emotions of post? pubescent characters, and the story depends almost entirely upon the more capable side characters to dawdle forth. It's a telling sign when your readership begins to consider rooting for the villains. The editor should have removed over fifty pages of unnecessary crying, blushing, lip biting, and nervous glances to improve the pace of this story, because the self-absorbed characters never grow or develop beyond their initial caricatures, even when the world is literally falling apart and people are suffering all around them. I struggled through this novel only for the sake of moving onto book four, and never have I skipped or skimmed paragraphs in any story until opening this book.
The only redeeming quality is that compared to the previous stories in this series, this novel advances more of the elements touched upon regarding the overall world of Faerun and interactions with the outer planes, going into a few more details about the places and realms since the end of the spell-plague. But do these meager scraps outweigh suffering through this story? I have my doubts, but after reading book four I'll have stronger authority to determine if this book can be skipped entirely. As of now, I'm left knowing that I will never read anything by Erin Evans again.

Not what you think it is
By Angry Lions Fan
Let me start by saying this is not a bad book. I don't feel like I didn't get my money's worth. If you have read the first two Brimstone Angel books then you know what to expect. The author, more or less, follows the same format here. The first third sets up the story, the middle third is background and other information, and the final third is the end.
My first complaint is the book description on Amazon. Not sure who's responsible for it but its not very accurate. Farideh isn't exactly a prisoner and the race to save her is the whole book.
There is a big plot twist in the beginning and I really didn't like it. It felt like one of the corporate decisions the author had to do.
Another issue I have is that this book doesn't have the Farideh I enjoyed reading about. Through 90% of the book Farideh is a shell of what she was. Oh the way the author uses the story to destroy Farideh emotionally was really well done. I just didnt find it enjoyable to read about. Then the author uses more mental manipulation which is getting really old.
I could see how some people will enjoy this story. There was
a good section in the middle I was skipping through because it was boring. There is very little action in this book. Even at the end when it picks up. Farideh and Havi do very little in this book.
What really hooked me in Brimstone Angel were the sisters. I thought it was unique and their bond was a great read. That great part of the story is gone in this book. The epiloge and past hints tell us that sisterly bond probably wont be around long. I hope Im wrong because it looks pretty obvious as to what comes next. I think Fari and Havi are great characters but the stories are getting redundant on a basic level. One twin has to save the other. I dont need more books with that as a focus. Im afraid thats all we are going to get.
There are some good things in the end. You do get some pretty big answers even if you may have guessed.
(There is one great moment where Farideh sees some tarot cards with the card names as the other book titles)

Probably aimed at the younger crowd
By Shy Alon
Following the first 2 books of the Sundering I was eager to pick up the third. The beginning was hard but I kept on going waiting for the book to pick up.
It didn't.
Basically if you are into the internal rambling of insecure teenaged girls who get excited when kissed, blush when someone looks at them and nuclear when snubbed you're in for the read of you life. If not try to hang on for the chronological milestones of the Sundering and try not to overly grind your teeth at the lethargy of the plot.
