"I lingered over the pages and the years as this special Christmas Angel was handed down from one generation to the next. This is a story that will linger in your mind and in your heart." --Debbie Macomber, #1 New York Times bestselling author
A charming, heart-warming Christmas tale, sure to delight fans of Debbie Macomber and Richard Paul Evans, about the power of family, tradition, and love
In 1875, Owen Thomas, a poor Welsh coal miner, falls in love with a beautiful London actress, Jessica Lavery. He builds her a cottage in his village, and enchants her with the promise of the holidays they'll share after they marry. According to his special Thomas family tradition, the Christmas tree must always be outside, where it can look up to God. Owen carves her an angel to go on top of their tree, with lavender eyes like hers, a token more meaningful to her than any engagement ring. When Jessica breaks off their romance, Owen, broken-hearted, wraps the angel in his mother's shawl and brings her to America. There, she looks down over five generations, witnessing peace and war, triumphs and tragedies, reminding all who see her that Christmas is the time when families and sweethearts can come together, laughter and goodwill can lighten even the heaviest burden, and magic fills the earth. Jane Maas' book is a story of faith and love. And of the miracle that brought the angel home again.

Christmas Spirit between the covers of this book!
By Maryellen
When in 1875 Owen Thomas, a poor Welsh coal miner, met Jessica Lavery, an actress from London, for him, it was love at first sight. As a show of Owen's great love, he made a beautiful wooden angel with lavender eyes to match Jessica's. An angel that would grace the top of their Christmas tree, a tree that family tradition would have stand proudly outdoors where it could look up to the heavens.
Some things are simply not meant to be.
Owen emigrated to America and with him he brought the beautiful wooden angel. This wooden angel would grace the top of Christmas trees for all the generations of Owen's family. THE CHRISTMAS ANGEL is the story of what that ornament meant to each generation of Owen's family over so many years.
In the first part of the book we learn so much about Owen through his letters sent to Jessica. I love this epistolary approach. Each subsequent part of the book tells the story of another generation ending with the story of the narrator, the Great-Granddaughter of Owen Thomas, the family historian.
It is little wonder that we'll be seeing this book come to life as it has already been slated to become a television movie.
This story is lovely. Charming. Heartwarming. Tender. If you need some Christmas Spirit, you'll find it in the pages of this book. If you have ever been handed down some cherished family heirloom and wondered what stories it would tell if it could talk, then this book will mesmerize you. I found myself thinking of this little Bible that I have that was written in German and has been handed down through so many generations in my family. I wonder where it has been and what it has meant to everyone who held it sacred. And I wonder too, what it will mean to the next person in my family who will inherit it from me.
This is the first book I’ve read from author Jane Maas and it certainly will not be the last.
I have been lucky enough to have won a few books now from Goodreads. Of all of them, this one makes me feel the luckiest. Thanks Goodreads. Merry Christmas to one and all.

Great holiday read!
By Christine
THE CHRISTMAS ANGEL is a great book to read during the holidays. It was filled with happiness, heartwarming moments, it makes you cry during sad and happy times. It's just a feel good type of book.
The first chapter is about a man named Owen Thomas and how he fell in love with an actress and made her a beautiful angel to go atop their Christmas tree. When it doesn't work out between the two, he moves to America, falls in love and marries. He gives his new wife the Christmas Angel to put on their tree. The next chapter is about Owen's wife (the narrator's great grandmother) and how they met, fell in love, and married. Each subsequent chapter tells the story of a new member of the next generation. We get to see the narrator's grandfather's story, her uncle's story, her mother's story, and then the narrator's own story about moving overseas to pursue her dream.
I loved getting to see each generation's story and how alike they all are. The family has a history of falling in love fast and hard, making brave decisions, and keeping the old Welsh traditions alive. Maas did a wonderful job showing these things and how they are personified in each member. What I enjoyed most is how the book comes full circle. I don't want to give anything away, but when you finish, you'll be left with a sense of awe at just how small the world is. Anything can happen and the ending was perfect.
THE CHRISTMAS ANGEL can be read in one sitting. It's fast paced, well written, and a story you'll want to continue reading. It's the perfect book to read by a warm fire with a cup of hot chocolate. It made me extremely thankful for my own family and where we came from. THE CHRISTMAS ANGEL is the perfect story to share with loved ones during the holiday season.

Get ready for the warm and fuzzies!
By Marcie
Get ready for the warm and fuzzies. The Christmas Angel by Jane Maas is an
incredible, heartwarming book that will soon become one of your holiday favorites. It follows a hand-carved Christmas Angel from generation to generation in the Thomas family. Through good times and bad, through heartache and triumph.
I loved how the story is told through journal entries, letters, flash backs, and narrative. It made if feel real as if I were reading someone's diary. I experienced so many emotions while reading this book. And the ending, oh, the ending, made me want to weep with joy. I loved that you got a glimpse into the lives of the Thomas family. I only wish this book was a bit longer so that I could learn more about the characters. However it didn't take long for me to fall in love with the characters, so I guess the length is perfect. This is a book I will read time and time again. Especially around the holidays. I enjoyed reading every page.
