A Fast Paced, Thrilling Dystopian Sequel!

'Renegade' is the second book in the MILA 2.0 series - a young adult science fiction/dystopia that continues to follow our heroine Mila - an android who's more human than imaginable. After the horrific events in the first book, Mila is now on the run and searching for two people her mother spoke about - Sarah and Richard Grady. She has no idea who these people are or why her mother wanted her to find them, but she's determined to get to the bottom of things. Now she has Hunter by her side, and his safety is paramount - even if it means she has to lie to him about her true self and what she's really running from. As she relies on her android functions more and more, Mila worries that she'll lose her humanity - what little she may have had to begin with.
Like the first installment in the trilogy, this book was full of unexpected twists and turns, romance, and adrenaline pumping excitement and action. I loved Mila as the lead character - we see her grow in several ways in the book. She's discovering her true nature along with her abilities - both android and human. She's incredibly easy to identify with and it's easy to forget that she's not completely human. Hunter is a great love interest - totally sweet and gorgeous, but even he has some secrets and Mila must decide if his intentions are what he claims to be or not - which I think adds a great layer to the plot that mixes romance, mystery, and some suspense - and definitely gives the story more complexity. I loved learning all I could about Mila - her history, background, how things came to be. I can't really elaborate much on this because I don't do spoilers, but I thought all the parts of Mila's past added up to an intriguing story. The writing was incredibly well done and I was pulled back into Mila's world within the first page of the story. I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next and ended up reading the entire book in one sitting. Since finishing the last page, I'm already dying to read the final book to see what's going to happen and how it will all turn out. I highly recommend this book - and series - to fans of dystopias, science fiction, and fantasy novels. It's original, fast paced, and keeps you on your toes the entire time.

A Sequel Better Than the Original WHAT?!?!?!

Before I even begin with this review, I just have to point out I was not looking forward to reading this book. And some of you might think, if you weren't looking forward to reading it, then why in the hell did you pick it up. Well ladies and gents thanks to Edelweiss and HarperTeen I was given an early e-arc of this book to read and give my honest review. And who can pass up a free book. So my disliking of this series comes from book one, I felt like it was overly hyped and way over predictable. But with that being said, book 2 Renegade was definitely a better predecessor. Now even though Renegade was way better does not mean it was perfect, I still found things that absolutely drove me crazy, but Mrs Driza did a fantastic job of adding adrenaline pumping action at every twist and turn.
I think my favorite part of this book was our main character Mila. In book one I wanted to violently reach through that book and beat some common sense into her. But since thats physically impossible, I just had to push through. Thankfully in Renegade, Mila did a 180 for me. Her perspective and outlook have been turned upside down and she doesn't take it lying down. She really grew as a character, and I enjoyed watching her figure out who she is and work on becoming her own person. I felt bad for Mila, she has been through hell in a hand basket and the girl really never catches a break. Also seeing Mila with her new found abilities was awesome btw.
Now one of the big reasons why I ranked this book with a 3 star rating instead of a 4 or 5. Is because of the stupid love interest. I think this is the first time in YA reading when I didn't ship the two main characters. I disliked Hunter in book one, and I disliked him even more in Renegade. Which of course sucks for me because unfortunately Mila and Hunter's relationship was a very large part of the story. It irritated the crap out of me to watch Mila pining over Hunter. . . YUCK, can we say insta-love much. But then when Mila isn't puppy dog eyes for Hunter, she's doubting him. Now I don't blame her for trust issues. Like I said Mila has been lied to repeatedly, but Mila darlin this boy is unwavering no matter what lies and danger you put him through. Besides that whole ordeal, I did enjoy this book and I'm especially glad that we finally got some answers to Mila's backstory.
Overall, I enjoyed Renegade way more than I thought I would. I'm definitely glad that I gave this series another chance and I highly recommend it to Sci-Fi book lovers. Oh and BTW I'm patiently waiting for book 3 now, I effing hate cliffhangers.

Wow. Wow. Wow. This was amazing.
Lots of twists and turns, action, swoons, laughs....this book had it all. It's pretty much fast paced from the beginning and doesn't let you go until the last page. And be prepared, there's one hell of an ending.
I cannot wait to see what happens in the last book. I need it right now. Right now. RIGHT. NOW.
