Donald continues to reconfigure a time-honored legend in the fourth installment of his gritty Robin Hood series. As in the previous three volumes, the tale is narrated by Sir Alan Dale, friend and devoted companion to Robert of Locksley (aka Robin Hood), lord of war, master thief, and loyal lieutenant to King Richard the Lionheart. Moving forward in time, this chapter of the ongoing saga is set primarily in Normandy, where Richard, Robin, and company are challenging the encroachment of King Philip of France. As usual, the battle scenes are brutally etched in gruesomely descriptive prose, but the multilayered plot moves beyond the arena of war as Alan plumbs his own personal history in order to unravel the mystery surrounding his father’s death. About the Author
ANGUS DONALD was born in 1965 and educated at Marlborough College and Edinburgh University. He has worked as a fruit-picker in Greece, a waiter in New York and as an anthropologist studying magic and witchcraft in Indonesia. For the past fifteen years, he has been a journalist in Hong Kong, India, Afghanistan and London.

Very nice series !

Not a review if Warlord as much as a review of the entire series as I just finished Warlord and look forward to Grail Knight. I must say the books have developed nicely Alan and Robins character and relationship have grown and changed over the course of the series . The overall backdrop of the Crusade and the wars of King Richard have shaped the characters into the men and women they are. It is an entertaining story and at times bloody and awful deeds are done even by the "heroes" of the story. These books do not have the back story and detail of say " The Game of Thrones" but it is a very solid well told story that I think most readers will enjoy as I have.

I very much like the series, while the series very neatly plays around the Robin Hood character of lore, I do find myself reading it more for the historical scenes and the overall story. I think the series would have been just as good had it not been built around Robin Hood himself. The story is compelling and moving and I will continue to read the entire series.

Another Great Book in the Series!!!!

I loved it! Another great book in his series on Alan Dale, friend, enemy to Robin Locksley better known as Robin hood. His writing is superb as his crafting of the plot line intertwining through medieval England and France with Richard the Lionheart.
You won't go wrong with this book but...get all of the series!
