Gr 7 Up—This heartfelt, action-packed conclusion to the dystopian series begins where the second book Through the Ever Night (HarperCollins, 2013) ends. Liv is dead and Aria's recovering from a disabling gunshot wound. Roar and Perry blame each other for Liv's death and it's tearing them apart. The magnetic Aether storms are getting worse. Before it's too late, they must find the Still Blue, a paradise where they can live safe from the storms. Sable, the ruthless and cruel Horn tribe leader, kidnaps Cinder to use his ability to generate an Aether to destroy the Aether currents. Perry, Aria, and the others determine to rescue Cinder, knowing that a showdown between rival tribe leaders Sable and Hess, the cowardly Dweller leader, is inevitable. Perry and Aria are strong yet imperfect characters struggling to balance their love for each other with their responsibilities as tribe leaders. Some of the book's most interesting characters, such as Liv and Cinder, aren't fully developed and are, sadly, short-lived. The inclusion of the identity of Aria's father, while not essential to the story, is a nice surprise. The humorous quips made by Roar and the 6, so welcome in the series' previous books, are largely missing here. The fact that Perry, Aria, and company are repeatedly captured by Sable does become a bit repetitive. Still, the forthright and compelling plot has just enough of a twist to make this book, and the series, stand out from others like it. Fans will be desperate to find out how it all ends.—Sharon Rawlins, New Jersey State Library, Trenton
From Booklist
In this conclusion to the Under the Never Sky trilogy, Dwellers and Outsiders converge in the race to the Still Blue, the mythical pocket of calm beyond the Aether. The Tides have found shelter in a network of caves, but their safety is temporary. Soon, the Aether storms will trap them underground. Aria must corral Soren and the rescued Dwellers before they destroy the Tides’ fragile trust. While Perry is more confident as Blood Lord, Roar returns from his mission cold and distant, with terrible news. Meanwhile, Hess and Sable, rival leaders, have forged an opportunistic partnership and possess everything needed to find the Still Blue: transport, coordinates, and Cinder, the boy who can channel the Aether. Confused? Better start from the beginning. Old hands will notice that narrators Perry and Aria have grown as leaders and lovers, and while their romance stays rock solid, the rest of the story remains suspenseful. After such a riotous buildup, the final battle is over too easily, but with several character deaths behind them, the survivors earn their happy ending. HIGH-DEMAND BACKSTORY: With twenty-some countries reading along and a film perhaps in the offing, the publisher’s The End Is Here media campaign is out to drum up big-time awareness. From the Back Cover
The race to the Still Blue has reached a stalemate. Aria and Perry are determined to find this last safe haven from the Aether storms before Sable and Hess do—and they are just as determined to stay together.
Within the confines of a cave they're using as a makeshift refuge, they struggle to reconcile their people, Dwellers and Outsiders, who are united only in their hatred of their desperate situation. Meanwhile, time is running out to rescue Cinder, who was abducted by Hess and Sable for his unique abilities. Then Roar arrives in a grief-stricken fury, endangering all with his need for revenge.
Out of options, Perry and Aria assemble an unlikely team for an impossible rescue mission. Cinder isn't just the key to unlocking the Still Blue and their only hope for survival—he's also their friend. And in a dying world, the bonds between people are what matter most.
In this final book in her earth-shattering Under the Never Sky trilogy, Veronica Rossi raises the stakes to their absolute limit and brings her epic love story to an unforgettable close.

Loved.

I won't go into the plot. Other reviewers have mentioned it, and it's talked about in the blurb for the book itself.
So what can I say about it? I can tell you that I finished it in less than day. And I can say is that this is the best YA/dystopian series I've read. Yes, even better than that bestseller turned box office hit. I briefly considered the possibilities of this series going the Hollywood way eventually, but I think this story needs to stay in the imagination. Don't get me wrong; I'd definitely go watch just to see how it translated to the screen. I just don't think it could measure up. Notice I said "story" as opposed to "book." It was so much more than a book. Ms. Rossi's writing style is uniquely her own. She puts in character quirks, subtle nuances that we'd actually notice if this story were to unfold before us. This is what makes the story "real," so to speak. It helps to bring the characters we've become so fond of to life. Their struggles become our struggles. Their pain becomes our pain. Their love becomes our love. This is the true mark of a fantastic author, and I, for one, can't wait to see what Ms. Rossi brings us next.
Bottom line? If you're holding out due to the disappointment of Allegiant (seriously, we all felt it), don't. If you haven't committed to the series, please do. You won't regret it. Bravo, Ms. Rossi.

Perfect Ending to the Best YA Dystopian Series Out There
By Maggie
I hope it goes without saying, but if you haven’t read the first two books in this series you probably want to stop reading here. Also, no spoilers in this review, this is more going to be a vague discussion of Into the Still Blue and my thoughts on how amazing this series is as a whole.
Veronica Rossi seriously rocks my socks off. I was so nervous about reading this one because I didn’t want another Hunger Games or Divergent ending on my hands. Those endings made me sad, but I think the Under the Never Sky series is the best young adult dystopian series out there, and I love Aria and Perry, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to handle anything truly terrible happening.
When I first started this book I thought a lot about how the series first started and maybe 20% into Into the Still Blue I went back and picked up Under the Never Sky to reread about how Aria and Perry first meet. I enjoyed that story the first time around, but the second time around, knowing how the story and characters developed, I appreciated it so much more. While I was reading Into the Still Blue I kept thinking about what a full, complete story Veronica Rossi created. Not only the larger themes, but little things from the first book tie into the second or the third or both and I really appreciated that.
One of the scenes in Under the Never Sky that I reread was the scene were Perry makes shoes for Aria out of a book cover and Aria tells him he picked an appropriate story, but Perry has no idea since he can’t read. He doesn’t want to tell Aria he can’t read thought because he think she’ll just see him as even more of a savage. I teared up the first time I ever read that and I teared up again the second time, it’s even more amazing when you consider how far Aria and Perry’s relationship has come. Plus, Perry not being able to read plays a really important part in Into the Still Blue.
My biggest surprise in reading this book was how much time was spent preparing to attempt to get to the Still Blue. From where the second book leaves off we know that the Tides and some of the Dwellers from Reverie are in a large cave in the Tide territory and that Hess and Sable have forged an alliance and kidnapped Cinder to try to get to the Still Blue. I assumed going in that Perry and Roar would try to rescue Cinder and take over Hess and Sable’s fleet of Hovers, I just didn’t expect that to comprise most of the story. Which isn’t a complaint, I literally loved every part of this book.
Unlike the second book there are a lot of scenes in this one with just Aria and Perry. Their romance is one of my all-time favorite book romances so I was happy to see this. There’s something about the way that they are with each other and their connection that really gets me. At one point Roar and Soren discuss what makes Perry so attractive to so many women and I was cracking up at what he was saying because really, it’s so true.
This might sound weird, but one of things that Veronica Rossi did throughout the three books that impressed me so much was to create the character of Soren. Thinking back to the first book where Soren hacks them into Ag Six and then goes crazy and tries to kill Aria it seems impossible that they would one day be working together. But he helped them escape Reverie and he plays a really important part in this book. I loved seeing his transformation and growth, even when, maybe especially when, he was acting like a complete idiot.
There will be a vague, not really, but I’m warning you any way, spoiler in this paragraph. As I reached the ending of this book and this series one of the things I thought about was a line in Fangirl. Cath and Wren are discussing how Cath will end her fanfiction and Cath thinks a happy ending is a cop out and Wren tells her that “the ultimate act of heroism shouldn’t be death” and that “isn’t the best revenge supposed to be a life well-lived.” Even though Into the Still Blue didn’t have an 100% happy ending, that’s just not possible, I was happy that Veronica Rossi didn’t go completely over the edge in killing people off and having terrible things happen.
Bottom Line: I can’t believe this series is over. I do not want to say goodbye to Aria, Perry, Roar and everyone else (Roar spinoff book, maybe? please?), but I couldn’t have asked Veronica Rossi for a better ending. There was happiness, anxiety, sadness, romance, action, hope, disappointment, and pretty much everything in between. I loved this series and I can’t wait to see what Veronica Rossi comes up with next.
