One of our favorites, still!
By Paula's Books
Our family loves Mooncake, and the little bear who is the main figure in it. The simple and sweet illustrations match the simple, cute story. The conversations are with a little bird, that helps him try to figure out a way to get a taste of the moon. It draws even older children in, because you cannot help but wonder how a little bear can end up building a space ship that will get him to the moon, etc. The conclusions that little bear draws, do not leave him disappointed. When he wakes next spring, he goes on to tell the little bird how it went.

Very cute story indeed! I would highly recommend getting this for your child's library, or any child's library. You will be glad you did.

Wonderful story
By cheeky524
Frank Asch's stories are wonderful. I picked this up for my almost-reader (Pre-K), and she was captivated...as was my older reader, who's in the 3rd grade! Excellent word choices, simple but meaningful story lines, and bright illustrations - the hallmark of a Frank Asch book.

This book is adorable! I absolutely LOVE the Moonbear books
By Angelpooks
This book is adorable! I absolutely LOVE the Moonbear books, so when I stumbled upon this title, I ordered it right away. Moonbear and his friend want to visit the moon, so they build rocket ship, Moonbear gets in but falls asleep - wakes up in the middle of winter thinking he's on the moon! When he goes back into hibernation and wakes up in the spring, he gets to tell his friend his tale of visiting and tasting the moon. I'm a preschool teacher and can use this book as an any time read, when we talk about winter/hibernation, or when we talk about outer space! So many possibilities! LOVE this book!

Going Places, by Paul A. Reynolds, Peter H. Reynolds

It's time for this year's Going Places contest! Finally. Time to build a go-cart, race it - and win. Each kid grabs an identical kit, and scrambles to build. Everyone but Maya. She sure doesn't seem to be in a hurry...and that sure doesn't look like anybody else's go-cart! But who said it had to be a go-cart? And who said there's only one way to cross the finish line?

From School Library Journal
K-Gr 2—When Rafael gets his contest kit to build a go-cart, he is thrilled. He loves to follow instructions, and he wants to win the big race. When he teams up with his neighbor Maya, they start to think outside the box, way outside. By combining Rafael's perfectly made-by-the-directions go-cart with Maya's bird-inspired design, they end up with an airplane. Before they can even respond to the ribbing of their classmates, the race has begun. After a slow start, their entry soars above the traditional go-carts and sails to the finish line, coming in first. The story and illustrations perfectly complement each other. The text captures the discovery of new ideas, teamwork, and the joys of creating. The art brings them all to life with detailed, cartoon digital pictures that show great facial expressions, the fun of building, and the action of the race while leaving plenty of white space so as not to overwhelm. A fun story that will get kids thinking (maybe even outside the box).—Catherine Callegari, Gay-Kimball Library, Troy, NH

From Booklist
It’s a happy day in Mrs. Chanda’s classroom when the students are given identical kits for constructing go-carts to race in a contest. Rafael, who is good at following directions, and his classmate Maya, a dreamer with a practical bent, creatively combine their kits to build a small plane. On contest day, a classmate scoffs at their contraption, but Maya and Rafael’s vehicle soars above the go-carts to win the race. The closing spread offers a preview of their next project: a frog-inspired amphibious craft. Pared down to essentials, the text reads aloud well. In the artwork, the settings and expressive characters are defined by bold, black lines. Most illustrations are bright with colors, though the occasional picture, such as a night scene showing the children silhouetted against the sky, uses black, white, and shades of purplish gray. Like David Gordon’s Your New JETT-Pup Owner’s Manual (2011) and Viviane Schwarz’s Welcome to Your Awesome Robot (2013), this satisfying picture book inspires can-do attitude combining imagination, invention, and engineering. Preschool-Grade 3. --Carolyn Phelan

Review
Although it has the whiff of an inspirational speech, this tale by the Reynolds brothers has enough entertainment value to avoid feeling inspid. Rafael is a dedicated instruction-follower, while his neighbor Maya is the dreamy sort: "She was so intent on watching the bird in front of her, and quickly sketching it, that she didn't even notice Rafael." When their teacher gives the class identical "Going Places" go-cart kits for an upcoming contest, Rafael realizes that collaborating with Maya, who envisions a flying machine instead of a car, might help him to victory. Sure enough, they dominate the contest. While the message about outside-the-box thinking is impossible to miss, the book is also an observation about how opposite temperaments can lead to successful collaborations. Still, Maya is a strong figure; Rafael's view of her over the fence as she experiments with a set of geared wings and pedals is an encouraging vision of the "maker" child who prefers crafting things herself to watching them on a screen. Ages 4–8. Agent: Holly McGhee, Pippin Properties. (Mar.) (Publishers Weekly)

Imagination soars—quite literally—when a little girl follows her own set of rules.

Every year Oak Hill School has a go-kart race called the Going Places contest. Students are given identical go-kart kits with a precise set of instructions. And of course, every single kart ends up exactly the same. Every one, that is, except Maya’s. Maya is a dreamy artist, and she would rather sketch birds in her backyard than get caught up in the competition. When she finally does start working, she uses the parts in the go-kart box but creates something completely different. No one ever said it had to be a go-kart. Maya’s creative thinking inspires Rafael, her neighbor (and the most enthusiastic Going Places contestant), to ask to team up. The instructions never say they couldn’t work together, either! An ode to creativity and individuality to be sure, but the Reynolds brothers are also taking a swipe at modern education: Endless repetition and following instructions without question create a culture of conformity. Hopefully now, readers will see infinite possibility every time the system hands them an identical go-kart box.

Not astonishingly go-out-and-buy-it-at-graduation inspirational, but all it takes is one seed of change to be planted. (Picture book. 4-8) (Kirkus Reviews)

Rafael was excited about entering the Going Places Contest. He went home with the kit, followed the instructions, and built his own go-cart. His neighbor, Maya, inspired by a bird in flight, created a contraption in which wings were attached to her arms and two-wheeled pedaling boards at her feet. Rafael and Maya became a team and built a small plane to enter into the race. Together, they soared above the other contestants and coasted gracefully through the finish line. This book is a fun and interesting literal take on thinking outside of the box! Upbeat, fast-paced, and filled with bold colors and fun illustrations, the book encourages readers to use their imaginations and take creative risks. Thinkers, builders, and children will enjoy this book as it dares them to be unique, innovative, and original. (Library Media Connection October 2014)

A nice little book to open you imagination and think outside the box. Friends names are multicultural which is nice, too! It's a good little read. Holds my kid's attention, but not overly excited to grab it off the shelf.

Why Fit In When You Were Born to Stand Out!?
By M. Perron
When I asked my second grade class what they thought of this book, this quote is what one of them shared. Going Places is truly about standing out...in all the best ways! Researchers like Tony Wagner have identified a number of important skills that today's students need in order succeed in the global market. These skills include curiosity and imagination, critical and creative thinking, and the ability to work collaboratively. Going Places encourages and illustrates these 21st century skills for children (and adults!) in a way that is interesting and fun, but with a strong message that the sky is the limit if you challenge yourself, open your mind, trust in your own voice, and persevere. When asked to share what they liked about Going Places, my students shared the following:
"It inspires me to try to create new things." (Jack age 7)
"I think it was cool that a boy and girl worked together." (Faith age 8)
"It tells us to stand out!" (Matthew age 8)
"It's cool that their cart was different from everyone else. Different is better." (Susie age 8)
"I liked that whatever they looked at (i.e. bird/frog) helped them make something new." (Ava age 8)
"It was inspiring for kids and grown-ups because they did what no one else did and they were creative." (Anthony age 8)
"It reminds me of a quote, "Why fit in when you were born to stand out?" The book tells you it's okay to do things differently and stand out." (Alise age 8)

As you can see, in addition to finding the message of creating and collaborating to be inspiring, this class of students also appreciated the gender equality of the characters, that the characters took ideas from their natural surroundings. There are many, many valuable lessons interwoven into this story, in addition to amazing illustrations. It is a must have for both classrooms and homes. Enjoy!

Visually captivating graphic novels for young readers
By Z Hayes
My seven-year-old daughter loves reading mysteries and my brother bought her several books in the Geronimo Stilton series. She loves them all! The stories are engaging with interesting plots involving mysteries and puzzles to be solved. The characters are engaging and fun for kids to read about and relate to. My daughter, a visual learner, loves the illustrations in the books as it makes reading a more engaging experience.

The stories are well-written (I usually preview the books she reads before she reads them so as to ensure the books are pitched appropriately for her reading level and contain suitable content for her age). This is a great series to motivate young children to read, and keep on reading. There are two types of books in the Geronimo Stilton series - paperback chapter books and graphic novels. They are both great for independent young readers though I'd recommend the graphic novels for visual learners.

The Black Obelisk: A Novel, by Erich Maria Remarque

From the author of the masterpiece All Quiet on the Western Front, The Black Obelisk is a classic novel of the troubling aftermath of World War I in Germany.

A hardened young veteran from the First World War, Ludwig now works for a monument company, selling stone markers to the survivors of deceased loved ones. Though ambivalent about his job, he suspects there’s more to life than earning a living off other people’s misfortunes.

A self-professed poet, Ludwig soon senses a growing change in his fatherland, a brutality brought upon it by inflation. When he falls in love with the beautiful but troubled Isabelle, Ludwig hopes he has found a soul who will offer him salvation—who will free him from his obsession to find meaning in a war-torn world. But there comes a time in every man’s life when he must choose to live—despite the prevailing thread of history horrifically repeating itself.

“The world has a great writer in Erich Maria Remarque. He is a craftsman of unquestionably first rank, a man who can bend language to his will. Whether he writes of men or of inanimate nature, his touch is sensitive, firm, and sure.”—The New York Times Book Review

Remarque's Best, My Favorite Book
By Peter J. Morris
This novel isn't for everyone but it is my favorite. Remarque does a wondrous job creating vivid characters in a small German city in the early 20s. Hyper-inflation, depression and a nation in despair after the humiliation and torment of the Great War, are well told themes. Ludwig is able to find humor through all this and although there is little plot, there is a great story-line. For me, this novel also explains how the horrible economic conditions could so rile a populace, that the small-minded minority embraces Hitler.
Remarque wrote one of the greatest war novels of all time, told great stories of on the run emigrees, and concentration camp horrors, but this book explains pre-Hitler life and thinking in Germany, and is a must read for any Remarque fan.

The Black Obelisk
By Marina Rozenberg
This is one of my favorite books of all time. It definitely is a slow read, and really this is the only time I've ever thought of a book as one to be savored. Ludwig, the main character, is sensitive, genuine and astute, with an incredible sense of humor that is often surprising. I was really touched by this book. It exposes people for what they are, as it exposes life in those times. Absolutely incredible, but take it slow.

Not Boring at All!
By A Customer
Remarque is never boring! If you're that ponderous, contemplative type, you'll appreciate EMR's heroes a lot, including Ludwig Bodmer, the "star" of "The Black Obelisk".
The setting is depressing, as is usual in EMR's novels: the inter-war Germany, fresh out of a lost war and in deep economic trouble, yet failing to acknowledge its mistakes and ready to polish its honour once more. Ludwig sells tombstones, not a terribly exciting occupation in itself, yet even more tolling if you have to do it under conditions of severe inflation. But he and his buddies (most notably, Georg Kroll, the shop owner) manage to have a good time despite everything.
The book is funny in places and philosophical in other. Or the both together. The only parts I found a little tedious were Ludwig's (then a.k.a. Rolf, Rudolph, or Ralph) endless dialogues with Isabelle/Genevieve at the mental asylum. But I can see some people liking those, too.
Certainly worth a read.

Amazon.com Review
The Official Wildwood Imperium Playlist - Created by Colin Meloy

1. “Mermaid Parade,” Phosphorescent

I listened to this song over and over while I wrote the last major scene of the book. Somehow, the feeling of bittersweet loss here seemed to just fit with what I was trying to evoke at the end. It’s such a sad story, this one.

2. “The Mother We Share,” Chvrches

Confessional: in fifth grade, I read all of Piers Anthony’s Xanth novels back to back, mostly in bed, listening to tapes on my old Sony Sports Boombox. I would set my alarm and wake up at dawn to read before school; after school, I would climb back into bed and keep reading. I listened exclusively to Scritti Politti and Depeche Mode and Yaz. Any music now that deliberately calls on that golden era of British synthpop makes me think of reading too much.

3. “Native Dreams,” Rose Windows

I can only aspire to the level of epicness that is evident in this song; if only Wildwood Imperium was half as epic, I would be satisfied. I hear marching armies and bloodied battleaxes when I hear this song. This band is so, so good.

4. “Little Red Riding Hood Hit the Road,” Robert Wyatt

For whatever reason, I keep coming back to the Canterbury scene of the early seventies when I think of music that is evocative of the book. Maybe it’s because there’s a funny kind of straddling going on with this top-shelf, university-educated prog music—it has one foot steadily set in the world of folktale and the other foot somewhere toeing about in deep psychedelia.

5. “In the Court of the Crimson King,” King Crimson

More Canterbury scene; this one mentions a fire witch and has a killer riff. And it’s fairly long. I would recommend listening to this song while reading the first chapter of Wildwood Imperium.

6. “The Lady Rachel,” Kevin Ayers

Two things going for this one: Kevin Ayers was a veteran of the Canterbury prog scene, and the titular character in this song shares a name with one of the main characters in Wildwood Imperium. Reason enough!

7. “Janitor of Lunacy,” Nico

Whenever I think of the Verdant Empress, who we meet in the first section of the book, I think that were she at any point to burst into song, she’d likely sound a whole lot like Nico. I’m not sure

what a janitor of lunacy is (apparently Nico’d written this one about Brian Jones), but it’s a kind of creepy that I can really get behind.

8. “I’ve Been a Mess,” American Music Club

I picked this song mainly because of the first line of the first verse: “Lazarus wasn’t grateful for his second wind.” Not to get to spoiler-y here, but I think it’s a sentiment that Alexei, the mechanical boy prince, would relate to.

9. “Night Before Mutiny,” Serafina Steer

“Queen of a wide open sea.” This song makes me think of the loneliness of the ocean, of those who ply the waters of the seas. Prue, later in the book, gets a brief taste of this loneliness and she does not find it to her liking one bit.

From School Library Journal
Gr 4–7—Prue McKeel knows she must unite the two engineers to bring back the automaton Prince Alexei, but she is not sure why the Council Tree gave this order. With one maker found, Prue searches for the second, while Elsie and Rachel work to free their friends from the titans of industry. Meanwhile, Curtis is trying to keep the Wildwood Bandit name thriving, even though it is just him and Septimus. With her return to South Wood, Prue expects to see a better world, not one controlled by the Synod, a group that worships the Blighted Tree. When Wildwood and all of the Impassable Wilderness is threatened by the return of the Dowager Governess, Prue must rescue the bandits, find the makers, and restore Alexie, all while trying to keep the protective boundary intact. Prue and her friends learn the true meaning of sacrifice and the power of forgiveness. With smart dialogue and excellent world-building, Meloy, as author and narrator, develops each character's personality and gives dimension and depth to his words. The author shows the struggle of revolution and the uncertainty that occurs in the early stages of remaking a world, drawing from the violence of the French and Russian Revolutions as well as providing terrific fantasy elements. This latest installment (after Under Wildwood) is an excellent addition to the series.—Sarah Flood, Breckinridge County Public Library, Hardinsburg, KY

From Booklist
The third tome in the Wildwood Chronicles continues the quirky adventures of 12-year-old Prue as she reenters the Wood to find that the postrevolution world she helped create isn’t going especially smoothly. In fact, she finds herself involved with a plot to resurrect Alexei, the automaton prince, who is foretold to bring peace to the land. But there is another resurrection in progress, too: naive teenager Zita is gathering the materials to bring back the evil Alexandra. A third story line—the most purely enjoyable—involves the Unadoptables as they join up with a band of beatnik saboteurs intent on raiding the Titan Tower, where an important hostage is being held. Meloy is the Wes Anderson of authors (characters with names like Ambrose Pupkin are many), and he nails the tone of this gentle, but not inconsequential, adventure; though filled with few genuine surprises, it is a warm, comforting read, and its massive page count allows readers to further lose themselves in the enchanting stroll through some very unusual woods. Final illustrations (including color plates) not seen. HIGH-DEMAND BACKSTORY: This best-selling series continues to get a major publisher push: an author-illustrator tour, launch events, limited-edition art prints, stickers, videos, playlists, you name it. Grades 4-8. --Daniel Kraus

Wildwood: imperium GREAT BOOK!!!!!
By book worm
Fiction and fantasy fans alike, here is an excellent series for anyone. As the third and last book in the Wildwood trilogy, it introduces new characters such as a reanimated Alexei, and brings back old favorites, like Aisling. In total, there are maybe two grammar or spelling mistakes, but the writing is so beautiful that those infractions are easily forgiven. The battle for righteousness grows even stronger and the Dowager Governess in her new form is competely reaveled. Spoiler alert!! One key character is killed and brought back to life. This book contains no swearing or other items that aren't appropriate for kids, although there is some mild violence, many different story lines and something that children younger than eight might find "scary". Recomended age: 8+. This is one of those series where you have to read the books in order, but i can assure you, that eveything from the astounding illustrations to the fantastic writing style will mame this a favorite for years to come. READ THIS BOOK!!!!

Great prose and story. . .
By Sarah
I really liked it, but it felt like another book needs to happen because much of what was introduced in the the second book was left unexplained, as well as element introduced in the installment. I would maybe give this 3.5 starts because of it. I still really enjoyed this series and it has made hiking through forest park even more special (if that is possible).

complex and thoughtful at different levels
By Mary Stowell
I own and read all three books of the trilogy. They are treasures, each and every one. The final book seems the most complicated in terms of how the author deals with fate, life and renewal of life. Although there is a lot of action, there is also a deeper message that has a resonance for all life events, and uses archetypal imagery.

Of Bonobos and Men: A Journey to the Heart of the Congo, by Deni Ellis Béchard

Bonobos have captured the public imagination in recent years, due not least to their famously active sex lives. Less well known is the fact that these great apes don’t kill their own kind, and that they share nearly 99% of our DNA. Their approach to building peaceful coalitions and sharing resources has much to teach us, particularly at a time when our violent ways have pushed them to the brink of extinction. Animated by a desire to understand bonobos and learn how to save them, acclaimed author Deni Ellis Béchard traveled into the Congo.

Of Bonobos and Men is the account of this journey. Along the way, we see how partnerships between Congolese and Westerners, with few resources but a common purpose and respect for indigenous knowledge, have resulted in the protection of vast swaths of the rainforest. And we discover how small solutions—found through openness, humility, and the principle that “poverty does not equal ignorance”—are often most effective in tackling our biggest challenges. Combining elements of travelogue, journalism, and natural history, this incomparably rich book takes the reader not only deep into the Congo, but also into our past and future, revealing new ways to save the environment and ourselves.

From Booklist
In the great-ape category of endangered species, gorillas and chimpanzees have so far received the bulk of media attention, mostly due to celebrity zoologists such as Dian Fossey and Jane Goodall championing their cause. Hence, until recently, one unusual—and endangered—primate, the bonobo of the Congo rain forest, had been comparatively overlooked by photojournalists and TV nature-show producers, perhaps because the animals’ penchant for promiscuous sex would make filming a tad risqué. Fortunately, a nongovernmental organization called the Bonobo Conservation Initiative (BCI) has been quietly but effectively protecting bonobos’ habitat and convincing their human neighbors to stop hunting them. For this absorbing report on the BCI’s innovative methods, renowned journalist Bléchard mingled with Congo villagers and BCI fieldworkers, observing how the conservationists forged alliances with villagers to build new schools and create jobs. In a country torn by unremitting military strife and rapacious mining, BCI’s work has also helped slow rain-forest destruction. Bléchard’s masterful, adventure-driven reporting delivers an inspiring account of an all-too-rare ecological success story. --Carl Hays

From the Inside Flap
NATURE | APES & MONKEYS $26.95

When acclaimed author Deni Béchard learned of the last living bonobos—matriarchal great apes that are, alongside chimpanzees, our closest relatives in the animal kingdom—he was astonished. How could we accept the disappearance of this majestic species, along with the rainforest it calls home?

As he looked more closely, Béchard discovered that one relatively small organization, the Bonobo Conservation Initiative (BCI), has done more to save bonobos than a number of far larger organizations. In contrast to many traditional conservation groups, BCI does not impose a system on Congolese communities. It approaches conservation as a process of exchange, in which the rainforest’s people teach conservationists to understand the local culture and ecosystem. BCI then partners with village leaders, helping them strengthen their communities and address the unemployment and lack of education that lead to the hunting of bonobos. The result is a truly postcolonial model of conservation. And because the local people feel that it emerges from their culture, they replicate its projects independently.

The struggle to prevent the extinction of bonobos is far from easy, to be sure. The Congo has been devastated by war and aggressive resource extraction, and its people are often skeptical of foreign intervention. But Béchard’s moving account—based on travels in the Congo and hundreds of interviews—reminds us that poverty does not equate to ignorance, that change requires more than wealth and power, and that only through collaboration can we make conservation go viral.

Deni Béchard is the author of a memoir, Cures for Hunger, and a novel, Vandal Love, which won the 2007 Commonwealth Writers’ Prize. He has traveled in over fifty countries and reported from India, Rwanda, Afghanistan, and Northern Iraq. He has written for a wide range of publications, including the Los Angeles Times, Outside, and Salon.com. When not abroad, he lives in New York.

An engaging read that's hard to put down....
By McGillicuddy E. Phillips
“Empty Hands, Open Arms” is a highly engaging read. Bechard smoothly moves from page-turning anecdotes to well researched narrative in a way that keeps the reader intrigued and immersed in the subject. This is the kind of book that anyone will find appealing because it covers a surprisingly wide-range of issues but never strays too far from intimate, human stories. From colonial history to human and ape evolution, this is one of those books that will change how one sees the world and our relationship with our closest primate cousins.

It was fascinatingly to learn how different bonobo societies are from chimps and other great apes. Learning that bonobos have a matriarchal social structure and live together in relative harmony is pretty intriguing and somewhat provocative. Also, it was fascinating to learn more about the Congo rainforest – the earth’s “second lung” – and its crucial importance to global warming issues.

This book helped me better understand international conservation issues. I am familiar with the intricacies of my local environmental issues but, like many, know of only a few massive, international conservation organizations (NGO’s). ‘Empty Hands, Opens Arms’ will help anyone who cares about conservation to get familiar with the important and unique role small NGO’s play in the international arena. For example, I was surprised to learn how and why some indigenous people may see large conservation groups as imperialists and more destructive to their way of life than industrial corporations. This was eye opening to say the least.

One more thing I loved about this book is the way Bechard brought to the fore the compelling human stories of those working to save bonobos and those living in closest proximity to them. In short, I found this book to be worthy of the accolades it has earned.

Empty Hands holds a mirror to ourselves through the bonobo conservation story...
By Pyotr Patrushev
I have been watching the evolving and the tragic story of the bonobos for years. This is not only the best book on the subject, but also a fascinating journey through the "small history" of one project into the "Big History" of humanity as a whole. The blend of personal biographies, conservation politics, local lore, and evolutionary recaps is most enlightening.

This story is hugely important for us symbolically. I have long held a view that were it not for the bonobo genes in us which get expressed occasionally when times or environments are "good" for the human ape, we would have long ago exterminated ourselves.

The whole bonobo saga right now does not imbue me with any sense of hope (I have just come back from China and I can tell you, the majority of mankind does not give a hoot (I hope Jane Goodall will forgives) about endangered tigers or hippos or bonobos.

But books like Empty Hands allow us to hold a mirror to ourselves, just like Rachael Carson's The Silent Spring did for me, inspiring years of conservation broadcasts.

Not much has changed on the ground since the 60's, except maybe for the worse, what with the population growth and the general consumer frenzy that is also built into the genes of the short-sighted, ecocidal, pleasure seeking, twittering human primate.

However, I was absolutely awed by the courage, dedication, humility and selflessness of the BCI staff and their local collaborators, paid and unpaid. I worked in Lebanon and the Caucasus for the NGOs but Congo seemed really daunting to me. I also appreciate the dedication, the courage and the objectivity of Deni Béchard, the author of this book.

I hope this book will be taken seriously by the various conservation groups and the NGOs around the world, as it espouses the only effective "participatory" model of conservation, not the glory, kudos, and grant-seeking path pursued by many large groups and foundations.

Unfortunately, the only radical "solution" to the problem of ecocide practised by humanity on ever-larger scale I see (I have written a "science truth" novel Project Nirvana along these lines), is reducing human population by at least ½ (that will give a breathing space of maybe 25-50 years) and then working towards creating a bonobo/photosynthetic hybrid. Of course, I present this "solution" with a bit of wry smile :), as a literary satire.

Get to work, folks! Time HAS run out...

Best description of the topic I've read!
By Craig Calfee
This book appears to be the same as "Empty Hands, Open Arms" by the same author. Either way, a great read and wonderful documentation of why and how development and conservation must be done with inclusion of the affected people in order to have long term success. Having travelled and worked in the DRC, I can say this was portrayed realistically and with understanding of the complex issues of the area. I am newly inspired to keep working on my own projects there as well as share them with organizations like BCI, the subject of this book.
